| Name: | Lord Ecthelion of the Fountain |
|---|
The came there from the south of the city the people of the Fountain, and Ecthelion was their lord, and silver and diamonds were their delight; and swords very long and bright and pale did they wield, and they went into battle to the music of flutes.
Ecthelion is one of the Elves of Gondolin, the chief of his House and close friend of their King. He, like many in the Hidden City, is of Aman, an exile and Kinslayer. He is a great musician, able to play any instrument he attempts to use, but he favours the flute. He is tall, grey eyed, dark of hair, which is long and kept in braids, woven with silver and diamonds. He is pleasant, one of two most loved in Gondolin, fair of voice and face. A great warrior and kind Elf.
Now marched these folk to a great playing of flutes, and the crystal and silver of their array was most lovely to see amid the red light of the fires and the blackness of the ruins.
Then on a sudden their music ceased and Ecthelion of the fair voice shouted for the drawing of swords, and before the Orcs might foresee his onslaught the flashing of those pale blades was amongst them. 'Tis said that Ecthelion's folk there slew more of the goblins than fell ever in all the battles of the Eldalië with that race, and that his name is a terror among them to this latest day, and a warcry to the Eldar.
Ecthelion fought valiantly during the sack of Gondolin, slaying Orcs and Balrogs, until wounded and weary, he went up against Gothmog -- the greatest of the Balrogs. In order to destroy the great beast, Ecthelion pierced him with the pike of his helm, forcing Gothmog (and himself) into the Fountain of the King. It is there that Gothmog perished, and pulled down by the weight of his armour, Ecthelion was also slain.
This is where we find Ecthelion in Milliways -- just after falling into the great Fountain, his lungs filled with water. He is not canon punctured, and I would appreciate it if no one does so just yet. He speaks primarily Sindarin, but still remembers Quenya, the language of his race (Noldor).
Ecthelion is from The Silmarillion, and is the property of the Tolkien Estate. He/she appears here solely for the purpose of role-playing in , from which no profit whatsoever is being made.
